Claudine Longet murdered Spider Sabich in 1976

Claudine Longet, 66, would be a popular singer within the sixties and seventies when she shot and wiped out her lover, famous Olympic skier Spider Sabich at his Aspen, Colorado home on March 21, 1976.

The gifted artist was an 18 years old dancer within the Folies Bergere revue in the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Vegas when she met the famous singer Andy Williams, who had been two times her age at 32.  The pair married coupled with three children Noelle, Christian and Robert, who had been named after their excellent friend Bobby Kennedy, who died while creating a presidential primary victory speech in California.  Williams and Longet separated in 1970 and divorced in 1975.

Claudine, who had been beautiful, sports, slender and petite, made her career breakthrough in 1966 while guest starring on NBC television adventure Run for the Existence.  She sang an British-French bilingual rendition of Meditation and it was rapidly signed with a&M records and subsequently recorded five albums.  Longet later signed with Williams label Barnaby Records and launched two albums, We have Only Begun and Let us Spend the Evening Together.

Her career found a squealing halt when she required the existence of her lover.  The famous playboy bachelor, Spider Sabich, all of a sudden found his lighthearted days dwindling when Longet and her three children moved into his Colorado home.

The shooting happened after Sabich had finished a baby shower and it was while getting outfitted.  Some speculate he was on the point of venture out for that evening without her.  He'd reported to buddies he desired to get her from his home because she cramped his style.

Longet told a jury at her murder trial the gun accidentally released as he was displaying the way it labored.  Evidence within the situation demonstrated that Longet had cocaine in her own system which Sabich was really bent over and done with his to her once the shot was fired at no closer than 6 feet range.  She tied to her story and it was escorted back and forth from the trial every day by her ex-husband Andy Williams.  The singer remains her friend even today.

Several bits of crucial evidence were apparently bungled by police researchers.  The jury found innocent her of criminal offence wrongful death but charged her of criminal negligence.  She compensated a little fine and spent thirty days in prison.  She was permitted for everyone the sentence in snatches on the considerable time period.  When the trial was over, she required off for any holiday with her defense attorney Ron Austin, who left his wife and kids to do this.  The pair later married and therefore are together even today.

Following the trial, the Sabich family started civil proceedings against Longet and wound up compromising for a great deal of money.  The key agreement stipulated that Longet cannot talk about or talk about the murder or settlement.

Mick Jagger authored an audio lesson concerning the murder in 1980 on his Emotional Save album.  The song, titled Claudine, transported lyrics that colored a picture picture of a few of the more salacious facets of the affair and killing.
