A spectator was wiped out by flying debris on Sunday in the Firebird Worldwide Raceway throughout the Feb 21, 2010 Arizona Excellent event. A tire travelled from the dragster of driver Antron Brown and struck a lady spectator.
The lady, 52-year-old Susan Zimmer of Grain Lake, Wisconsin, was moved by helicopter to get affordable Samaritan Clinic, where she later dead, based on an NHRA statement. She would be a receptionist and chair assistant in a dentist office coupled with been going to her boy and buddies in Arizona during the time of her dying. Her husband, Jim Zimmer, a Grain Lake firemen, died of cancer in Feb 2008.
Susan's employer of 12 years, Dr. David Wilson stated, "She would be a close friend and co-worker to many of us here. She was an enjoyable experience coupled with high energy. We miss her a great deal. We are still in shock. I shame her family and that i shame us."
Brown's 8,000-horsepower dragster made an appearance to get rid of energy from the cylinder after speeding up in the beginning line inside a first-round race against Troy Aficionado. The left-rear wheel and tire came off, and also the vehicle turned onto its right side. The automobile slid over the track, hit a fence and ongoing to climb the left-lane retaining wall. Brown was take a look at by NHRA Safety Safari personnel after which came back to his pit area with tears welling in his eyes.
