Susan Denise Atkins, charged killer who had been part of the "Manson family", died at age 61 in a Chowchilla, California prison on Thursday. Initially because of the dying penalty, her sentence was later commuted to existence imprisonment through the California Top Court.
Atkins, known inside the Manson family as Sadie Mae Glutz, spent the final 40 years in jail on her participation in eight killings, including actress Sharon Tate and also the LaBianca killings. She was a long-imprisoned female inmate within the California penal system.
In 1977 Atkins released her autobiography, Child of Satan, Child of God. 10 years later she exchanged wedding vows imprisonment with lawyer James W. Whitehouse, fifteen years her junior. He unsuccessfully symbolized her at her 2000, 2005 and 2009 parole proceedings.
In 2008 it had been says Atkins had terminal brain cancer. Her husband filed a compassionate release request however it was refused. Her last unsuccessful parole hearing was on September 2, 2009. She died on September 24, 2009 in the Central California Women's facility in Chowchilla.
Besides her husband, she's made it with a 41-year-old boy Zezozose Zadfrack Glutz, who had been adopted by another family after she was sentenced to existence imprisonment once the child would be a years old.
